What does the course cover?
This qualification will develop knowledge and skills required for candidates that specialise in general building operations to work in the construction industry. This will include areas such as general health, safety and welfare, conforming to productive working practices and moving, handling and storing resources.
Depending on the focus of the candidate, there are 8 different pathways:
Modular Paving Pavement Construction
Laying Kerbs and Channels
General Building Operations
Excavation and Reinstatement
Who is this course aimed at?
This qualification is ideal for individuals who work as operatives in the construction sector, laying pavements, kerbs, channels and drainage, working with concrete or excavating holes or trenches.

Achievement of the Level 2 NVQ Diploma Construction Operations and Civil Engineering Services could enable the holder to work in the construction industry and progress into a supervisory position.
Successful candidates often choose to pursue other advanced qualifications such as:
Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Work Supervision
Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Supervision
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification but candidates must have the potential and opportunity to gain this qualification successfully.
Our assessors will carry out an initial assessment of each candidate’s skills and knowledge to identify any gaps and help plan the assessment.
This qualification is competence-based meaning that candidates must demonstrate the level of competence described in the units.
Assessment is the process of measuring a candidate’s skill, knowledge and understanding against the standards set in the qualification. The qualifications will be assessed in a work environment and in accordance with the ConstructionSkills’ Consolidated Assessment Strategy for Construction and the Built Environment, as well as being assessed by an appropriately experienced and qualified assessor.
Each candidate is required to produce a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates their achievement of all of
the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit. Evidence can include:
Observation report by assessor
Record of oral and written questioning
Recognition of Prior Learning
